CAFE KOGI

FROM THE GUARDIANS OF THE EARTH

For our "Whipped Coffee scrub" we use a very special jungle coffee from the heart of the earth, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia. By purchasing this wonderful wild coffee, we support indigenous Kogi people. The Kogi people, also known as the guardians of the earth, harvest this highland coffee in northern Colombia by hand at an altitude of up to 1700 m. With the proceeds, the Kogi buy back sacred sites stolen from them over the past 500 years for their work to heal nature. Spiritual rituals accompany the coffee from flowering to harvesting, so the Kogi do without any chemicals. The old trees pass on their knowledge to the young ones. Nature knows how to help itself - if you let it. The coffee is traded directly, fairly & sustainably.

THE GUARDIANS OF THE EARTH

The Kogi are the last indigenous people in South America who live with their own culture, language and country, almost unaffected by the rest of the world. "The heart of the earth", they call their living space & they are the "guardians of the earth". There are still about 21,000 Kogi living in the highlands in northern Colombia, who have been realizing for years that the earth has become more and more out of balance. They realize that they can no longer guard the earth because they no longer have access to some sacred places & can no longer perform rituals there. We humans, the little brothers, as they call us, destroy and exploit nature so that we cannot counteract it. Too many sites have been destroyed by us humans. We have no respect for nature & nothing will change unless we change. Years ago, the Kogi had a vision that the sacred plant coffee, which grows wild in the Kogi forests, could solve these problems. This vision was brought to them by the God of Forests & Trees "Kalashe". Kalashe advised them to harvest the coffee beans & send the coffee all over the world with the help of partners like Oliver Driver, who we source the coffee from, who is on site at least once a year & organizes everything - from harvesting to shipping the coffee to spread the message of the Kogi. With the income they are able to gradually buy back holy places, and we at K'gari would like to support them wholeheartedly.
